Thank you for considering a Named Fund. Creating a Named Fund is a means to preserve a family name or honour a loved one - a very personal way to support a specific interest and protect cultural heritage.
Your Named Fund will be held by the Stichting Allard Pierson or, if preferred, by the Amsterdam University Fund, and will be fully managed by us.

Jansonius Fonds – Kino Jansonius
‘With the Jansonius Fund, established in 2013, the Jansonius name lives on.’
Clinical linguist Kino Jansonius (76) has spent her life learning, studying and teaching. An active and involved UvA alumnus, she is almost always present at events organized by the Allard Pierson and the Amsterdam University Fund.
What made you establish the Jansonius Fund for Historical Cartography as a Named Fund?
‘My husband passed away in 2012. We had no children. With his passing, the Groningen Jansonius branch became extinct. With the Jansonius Fund, established in 2013, the Jansonius name lives on. My husband and my father-in-law were interested in historical maps. For this reason, and also with the famous cartographer Janssonius in mind, I decided on a fund that would protect this heritage.'
The Allard Pierson and the staff of the Historical Cartography group at the UvA ensure this to the best of their ability. A Jansonius Lecture is held annually. For years now, the museum’s auditorium has become too small to accommodate all those who would like to attend. As a result, we had to relocate to the Mennonite Church on Singel.’
You can set up a named Fund starting at €25,000 and choose to support a specific interest in consultation with us. Setting up a Named Fund involves three steps:
Step 1: Discussing with the Head of Collections and the Head of Development the objective of your Named Fund, the amount to be donated, the duration of the fund and other provisions (e.g. to keep/not to keep initial assets intact).
Step 2: Drawing up an agreement to establish a Named Fund; deciding whether or not the Named Fund is open to contributions from third parties. If relevant, we determine the profile of an advisory committee at this stage.
Step 3: Signing the agreement and providing publicity if relevant about the establishment of the Named Fund.
You can choose to have your Named Fund benefit the Allard Pierson as a whole, but you can also decide on a specific subject or collecting area.
People who preceded you in setting up a Fund in Name chose, for example for:
- activities in the field of Amsterdam book studies;
- supporting the circus collection;
- building up and expanding the cartography collection.
Certainly, you can also can set up a Named Fund as a company, foundation or association.
Yes, you can do that with a themed fund. A themed fund is an existing named fund open to donations from third parties. These themed funds focus on a specific collecting area or certain activities. Read more about them here.
