Are you passionate about heritage collections and wish to preserve cultural history for future generations? By including the Allard Pierson in your will, you will help the museum to preserve and pass on ten thousand years of cultural history.
With your legacy, you will contribute to the preservation and development of our unique collections and ensure that we can continue to expand our educational offerings for young and old. In this way you can be instrumental in giving cultural history a future.
Why bequeath to the Allard Pierson?
Here's why your legacy matters:
- Preserving cultural history
Your legacy helps us to preserve ten thousand years of art, science and cultural history and share it with the world. From Egyptian mummies and medieval manuscripts to modern masterpieces: thanks to your support, these treasures will remain accessible to future generations. - Lasting impact on education
You will contribute to the expansion of educational programmes that spark curiosity and shape young minds. This way, you will give children, students and researchers the opportunity to explore our common past and develop a new perspective on the future. - Supporting scientific research
Your legacy supports scientific research and innovation. Our collections are an inexhaustible source of knowledge for researchers from all over the world. Your contribution helps to keep this knowledge available to science.

How does it work?
Including the Allard Pierson in your will is simple: you can name us as heir or determine which part of your estate you wish to donate by means of a bequest.
Your contribution fully benefits the museum
As the Allard Pierson is registered as a good cause (ANBI), the museum is exempt from inheritance and gift tax. This means that your entire donation directly benefits our museum and our mission.
Named fund or theme fund
Inheritances and legacies benefit the museum. Would you like your donation to be spent on a specific project? Or would you like to set up a Named Fund to commemorate your legacy? We would be happy to discuss the possibilities with you.
Tax advantages
Your donation can bring tax benefits. Read more about the possibilities and benefits.
"I like to bequeath to institutions that give me great pleasure. Such as the extraordinary collections of the University of Amsterdam at the Allard Pierson! If you don't have children, it's a nice idea that something of that love can be passed on. I see that as a tribute."

With a legacy, you help us preserve, research, restore and expand valuable collections and share them with young and old through exhibitions and educational programmes.
You can leave part or all of your inheritance to the Allard Pierson by naming the Allard Pierson foundation as a beneficiary in your will. Or by including a bequest in favour of the Allard Pierson, with you deciding which portion of your inheritance you wish the museum to receive.
Inheritances and legacies go in principle to the Allard Pierson foundation.
As a good cause (ANBI), the Allard Pierson foundation is fully exempt from gift or inheritance tax. Your donation goes entirely to the charity. You can read more about giving with tax benefits here.
Bequests to the Allard Pierson involve six steps:
Step 1: Heir or legatee?
You can include the Allard Pierson in your will in two ways: as heir or legatee.
- Heir
If you want to leave a percentage of your inheritance, you appoint the Allard Pierson as heir or co-heir. As heir, the museum is entitled to a portion of your estate, together with any other heirs. - Legatee
Would you like to bequeath a specific sum or property, such as a work of art or real estate? Then choose a bequest, to be established by you in your will.
Step 2: Choose an executor
Although it is not compulsory, it may be wise to appoint an executor to settle your estate. You can appoint a family member, friend or, for example, the Allard Pierson itself for this purpose.
Step 3: Register your wishes with the notary
A will can only be drawn up by a notary, with whom you make an appointment to discuss your wishes. The notary will then ensure a legally correct document.
Suggestion: would you like to draw up a will quickly and easily? It can also be prepared online through a site like NuTestament.nl, after which you only need to visit the notary to sign your will.
Step 4: Receiving the draft text
The notary draws up a draft text of your will and sends it to you. Take the time to go through this document carefully and discuss any adjustments with the notary.
Step 5: Signing at the notary's office
If you are satisfied with the draft text, you make a follow-up appointment with the notary to sign your will. You will receive a copy of your will, while the original will be kept by the notary and registered at the Central Register of Wills in The Hague.
Step 6: Inform the Allard Pierson
Have you decided to include the Allard Pierson in your will? We would greatly appreciate it if you would let us know. This way we can thank you personally and invite you to special meetings and activities. We would also like to give you an idea of what your contribution will eventually mean for the museum.
