By establishing a fellowship, you contribute to the promotion of academic research on the Allard Pierson's unique and extensive collections. Our fellowship programme offers several stipends each year to researchers from home and abroad. They are given the opportunity to study our collections for up to three months and thus contribute to new insights and knowledge.
By making a fellowship possible, you not only help the academic community, but specifically the Allard Pierson in making its valuable and meaningful collections accessible, and in further developing its role as a knowledge centre.

"Establishing a fellowship for natural history research at the Artis library of the Allard Pierson brings three things together for me: keeping my late wife Vanessa's name alive, her interest in botanical drawings by Maria Sibylla Merian, among others, and supporting scientific research at the UvA."
Peter-Paul Steenbergen
Setting up a fellowship in three steps:
Step 1. Are you interested in setting up a fellowship? Let us know via the contact form at the bottom of this page.
Step 2. We will meet to discuss preferences and possibilities. You can choose to set up a fellowship: this means that you yourself make a proposal for a specific research theme. You can also adopt a fellowship: this involves you supporting a fellowship proposed by the Allard Pierson.
Step 3. Once we have agreed everything together, we will formalise the agreements. This way, you contribute in a concrete way to making research into our collections possible.
Donating to an existing fellowship is not possible. Would you like to contribute to a specific collecting area or activities? Then consider contributing to a themed fund.
You can set up a fellowship from 1,500 euros per year. We prefer to set up fellowships for the duration of up to three months per year, amounting to 4,500 euros per year, for a period of 5 years. Most fellowship initiators also pay the one-off contribution of 1,000 euros to compensate (part of) the fellow's travel expenses.
