On show: Stories Cabinet

The collections of the Allard Pierson contain immeasurably more than we could ever put on display. Our curators frequently bring to the surface treasures from the depths of the collections and write blogs on them for our website. These objects and their stories are presented in our Stories Cabinet.

The Allard Pierson collection holds a variety of objects that shed light on the colonial and post-colonial relationship between Suriname and the Netherlands. Part of the Surinamica collection consists of recorded (travel) reports by Western Europeans. The collection also includes contemporary publications that present perspectives from the Okanisi Maroon community in Suriname, based on the centuries-old tradition of storytelling, song, and dance.
