Irma Boom Exhibits in Japan and the Release of Book Activist
On Friday, June 5, the exhibition *Irma Boom: Book Activist* opened in Tokyo at ATELIER MUJI GINZA, the renowned design gallery in Tokyo.

The Allard Pierson manages Irma Boom’s “living archive” as part of its graphic design collections and presented the exhibition *Book Manifest* in 2022, of which the Tokyo exhibition is a follow-up.
The major solo exhibition in Japan builds on the successful exhibition at the Allard Pierson and showcases a selection of Irma Boom’s projects that explore the boundaries of the book medium. It is a unique opportunity for the Japanese public to become thoroughly acquainted with the work of the internationally acclaimed Dutch book designer. “Book Activist” underscores the international interest in Dutch graphic design and book culture.
Release of the fourth edition in the book project: Book Activist
The exhibition in Tokyo is linked to the fourth edition of her growing book project, which compiles all of her work. This edition has been expanded by 500 pages—the book now totals 1,500 pages—and bears the same title as the exhibition. It is Boom’s response to the decline of printed books and independent bookstores: a way to reconnect creators and readers without compromise. The edition was printed and bound in the Netherlands and published in Japan in Japanese and English.
