Olivia Schoenfeld  - Analysing Allard Pierson’s scenography collection

Research

This fellowship examines scenography in the Allard Pierson theatre collections, specifically from 1980-2010, where items span different media related to production design. Many objects share histories, for example through a production or a designer. These relationships help highlight each item and its context, offering a fuller and more authentic understanding of both the object and the collection. By analysing the collection and its database, the project identifies underrepresented areas and missing stories in Dutch scenography. Methods include database analysis, material examination, interviews to map oral history, provenance research, and the study of personal materials. The research aims to strengthen the cohesion of the collection through informed conservation decisions and to support a deeper understanding of scenography beyond its original performance context.
