Euphemia fellow for fine prints before 1800

Ella Campbell  - A systematic census of Rafaël’s Loggia di Leone X and Loggia di Psyche

Research

This fellowship builds on the ongoing study unique hand-coloured album at the Allard Pierson, with prints from Giovanni Volpato and Giovanni Ottaviani's Logge di Rafaele nel Vaticano (1772-7) and Domenico de' Rossi's Psyches et Amoris nuptiae fabula (c.1693). The project involves a systematic census, collecting data from both digitised and physical editions of the two series to establish a broader contextual framework for the album’s production. By comparing each publication’s approach to composition, binding, dimensions, printing logic, and colour techniques and materials, the project aims to develop a more comprehensive understanding of the Allard Pierson’s album production context and distinctive presentation. This census will provide a basis for evidence-based conclusions about the album and its provenance, especially concerning its manual combination and colouring.
