People have been conducting archaeological research for many centuries. It yields all kinds of sherds, bones and utensils. Everyday objects, once just as common as the things we use now. But what do these material remains from the past tell us about ourselves? And what do you make of them?
At The Site, archaeology in Amsterdam comes to life. Archaeologists, curators, students, and you, are working together here to create stories about the past and the present. Objects from the Allard Pierson and the City of Amsterdam are brought together to connect different time periods and places around the world, inspired by themes like makers, children, home and beliefs.
Which stories do you think are missing? At The Site we collect ideas and suggestions to develop a meeting place for research, education and the public. Join in. Take a seat, exchange views on questions relating to provenance research or share your ideas about the future of this place.
Archaeology is about all of us. So, what do you think?
The Site is an initiative of the Allard Pierson, the Bureau Monumenten en Archeologie (BMA, Office for Monuments and Archaeology) of Amsterdam City Council and the Amsterdam Centre for Ancient Studies and Archaeology (ACASA) of the University of Amsterdam.
