De Best Verzorgde Boeken revolves around the interplay between design, production techniques, and publishing. When a publisher, designer, and production specialists truly work well together, the result can be exceptional books and sometimes even (technical) innovations, both today and in the past. This Salon creates the link between past and present, as the Allard Pierson collection contains both historical and contemporary books. De Best Verzorgde Boeken, for example, have been included in the collection for decades. Focusing on the role of technology in the design and production process forms the connecting thread between then and now.

Graphic designers Eva van der Schans, Jan Pieter Karper, and Doğa Gönüllü will speak about their design practice, and professor Irene van Renswoude will speak about manuscripts. Kylièn Bergh — fellow of the Wim Crouwel Institute — will lead the conversation.

Bookmaking Uncovered – the Just Enschedé Salon is part of De Best Verzorgde Boeken (The Best Dutch Book Designs), whose exhibition can still be visited at the Stedelijk Museum until 4 January 2026. The Salon is an annual in-depth conversation about current themes in Dutch book design. It is a collaboration between Allard Pierson, the Wim Crouwel Institute, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, and the Book Studies programme of the University of Amsterdam.
